Long Time, No See

Jonny and I have been MIA on this blog, which is quite obvious!  I chuckled when I just read the beginning of our last post... it seems like that was so long ago, and I suppose it was.  Karis is three now and we also have Simon now... he'll be 16 months tomorrow.  Man, I love them.  I can feel it in my gut!  I love them so much!

We've been praying about adopting for a while now, and as of late, it has been really heavy on our hearts.  We have begun the research and are attending an informational meeting in a couple of weeks.  We received an application from Bethany Christian Services, but we really are feeling the Lord leading us to go through the state.  We know that He's got big plans, and my, how overwhelmingly joyous and terrifying that can be!  LOL

We want to adopt a child that is not likely to be adopted for one reason or another.  We're not set on adopting an infant.  I know so many families long to do that, so there is no reason to seek that out when we don't feel that pull.

For obvious reasons, we would like to adopt a child that is Karis' age or younger... though Jonny has felt the leading to pray about adopting an older child, and I am following his lead.  In fact, we were just sitting here looking at a 14 year old girl's profile that we're going to pray over.  I can't imagine being the mom to a 14 year old right now, but the thought of changing a girl's future forever just makes my heart burst.

Looking through profiles of children that are available for adoption can be heart-wrenching.  I've shed a lot of tears over children that I will never meet.  My heart breaks for these orphans that are all around us.  Over 200,000 children age out of the foster care system each year.  200,000.  Wow.  Can you imagine being one of these kids?  I try to imagine it, but I know that is a febal attempt at putting myself in their shoes.  Not having a home.  Not having parents, aunts, uncles, cousins.  Where do they go for Thanksgiving?  Who loves on them at Christmas?  Who do they call when they're hurting?  Who encourages them to chase their dreams?  Oh, man, now I'm tearing up.

God is calling us to something bigger than ourselves.  What an honor.

Sarah
